Norse Mythology Fantasy Map for La Redención de Agartha

I am pleased to present this Norse mythology fantasy map for La Redención de Agartha (The Redemption of Agartha), an illustration I created for the fantasy novel by Alberto S. Torner. Designing this map was a fascinating project that combines fantasy with intricate detail, helping readers immerse themselves even further in the world of the novel.

The magic of maps in fantasy

Creating a Norse mythology fantasy map for La Redención de Agartha is more than drawing a geographic representation: it is a way of bringing an imaginary world to life. As with my map for Geralt of Rivia’s saga, published by Alamut in Spain, every map not only shows locations but also captures the essence and atmosphere of the novel’s universe. These maps are visual tools that enrich the reading experience by offering a graphic representation of the world where the plot unfolds.

The process of creating a map for a fantasy novel involves close collaboration with the author to make sure every detail matches the vision of the book. For this Norse mythology fantasy map, I worked closely with Alberto S. Torner so that the map would be not only functional but also a faithful reflection of the epic, complex atmosphere of his story.

A world built on Norse mythology

The novel draws on the cosmology of Norse mythology, where several worlds coexist: Midgard, the world of humans; Asgard, home of the gods; and realms such as Muspelheim, land of fire, and Jötunheim, land of the giants. Translating that kind of layered, mythical universe into a single map means balancing recognisable references with the author’s own invention.

The name Agartha also echoes an old esoteric legend about a hidden kingdom beneath the surface of the Earth, which adds a layer of mystery to the world of the novel. That is the challenge of any Norse mythology fantasy map: readers should feel the echo of the old sagas, while discovering a geography that belongs only to this story.

Synopsis of La Redención de Agartha

In La Redención de Agartha, the battle of the Ancient Era nearly led to the extinction of the Old Gods. To prevent a new invasion, the gods took two crucial precautions. The first was to build an impregnable fortification separating the inhabitants of Muspelheim and Jötunheim from the rest of the world. The second was to plant the best Asgardian genes in certain inhabitants of Midgard, intending to awaken their abilities when needed.

With a new invasion imminent, those genes have been activated. The fate of the Supreme Shire now rests on a small group of humans with extraordinary powers and their alliance with other Agarthians who oppose the current regime.

Availability of the novel

Unfortunately, Kelonia Editorial, the publisher of La Redención de Agartha, has closed, so the novel may be hard to find. Fantasy fans can keep an eye out for future reissues or second-hand copies in specialist bookshops. Its rich plot and intricate world are still worth discovering.
