In <em>Nefilim<\/em>, the central conflict revolves around the tension between the humans of <strong>Ziralia<\/strong> and the silvian of <strong>Gandaram<\/strong>, two regions with very different cultures and politics. This epic fantasy map gives a clear view of those areas, so readers can find their bearings and better understand the routes, the disputed territories and the places where the battles happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe magistrates have not spoken; there will be consequences.\u201d <em>Nefilim<\/em> is a fantasy between the epic and the dark. The novel was launched through a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verkami.com\/projects\/38621-nefilim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crowdfunding campaign on Verkami<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"what-makes-this-epic-fantasy-map-unique\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What makes this epic fantasy map unique<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The challenge was to capture both the natural geography and the mystical elements that run through the novel. Engaira is not an ordinary world: it is full of astonishing creatures and supernatural phenomena reflected in its land. From the desert sands where the serpents lurk to the dense jungles where the guirguidones destroy everything in their path, every detail of the map was designed to convey the epic, dark atmosphere of the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"the-creative-process-from-vision-to-reality\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The creative process: from vision to reality<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Creating the map for <em>Nefilim<\/em> began with a conversation with the author, Sergio R. S\u00e1nchez. His vision of Engaira was clear; my job as an illustrator was to translate it into a visual design that was both informative and artistic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"stages-of-the-map-design\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stages of the map design<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Research and understanding of the world:<\/strong> before putting pencil to paper, it is essential to fully understand the universe of the novel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Initial sketches:<\/strong> I started with preliminary sketches laying out the main regions and cities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Details and visual elements:<\/strong> with the basic structure in place, I added the smaller details: mountains, rivers and iconic creatures such as the serpent integrated into the design.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Shading and texture:<\/strong> the map was kept in black and white, with shadows and textures added to give a feeling of age and mystery, as if it had been drawn by the inhabitants of Engaira themselves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"the-narrative-role-of-the-map\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The narrative role of the map<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond being a visual tool, this epic fantasy map has a narrative purpose. Readers do not only check it to see where events happen; they can also find clues about the future of the plot.
